Guided by Professor Kathryn Reetzke, her HIST 101 class created a collection of quilts telling the stories of historical women and the community care that binds people together. What began as a classroom assignment grew into something far larger: proof that history isn't found only in textbooks. It lives in the stories we carry, the communities we build, and the care we show one another.

A protective order is a court order signed by a judge that legally requires someone who has hurt or threatened you to stay away and stop the abuse. In Kentucky, filing is free, you don't need a lawyer, and you can start the process 24 hours a day. On July 7, city officials announced that text-to-911 is now a permanent service across Louisville Metro, after months of running as a pilot program. Emergency dispatchers there can now receive and respond to text messages from anyone who cannot safely make a voice call. Here's what we want every person in our ten-county service area to know: you don't have to be in Louisville to text 911. This week, First Lady Britainy Beshear announced the launch of the Kentucky Domestic Violence Data Dashboard, a new interactive tool that makes it easier than ever for the public to explore domestic violence statistics — statewide or right here at home. Users can compare data by county and Area Development District and find specific information on offenders, domestic violence shelters and support services, and law enforcement outcomes.

For a survivor of domestic violence, the distance between home and help can feel impossible to close. In a service region that spans nearly 4,000 square miles and ten counties — with only three brick-and-mortar offices — that distance has been one of the biggest barriers standing between survivors and the support they deserve. This week, we started closing that gap.

On April 30, 2026, Governor Andy Beshear announced $16 million in federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant funding awarded to 88 agencies and organizations across Kentucky. BRASS, Inc. is proud to be among this year's recipients, receiving $333,587 to continue providing life-saving services to survivors of domestic violence in our ten-county service region.

BRASS, Inc. is grateful to share some wonderful news — and even more grateful to WNKY News 40 for helping us spread it. We recently received a donation of 5,000 pairs of socks from Bombas, the American sock manufacturer known for its mission-driven giving. It may sound simple, but socks are one of the most requested and most needed items for survivors and their families as they take their first steps toward safety and healing.
