Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. Awarded Neighborhood Grant from The Starbucks Foundation to Support Domestic Violence Survivor Services

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Barren River Area Safe Space, Inc. (BRASS, Inc.) has received a $1,000 Neighborhood Grant from The Starbucks Foundation, recognizing its work to support survivors of domestic violence and their children across a ten-county region of south-central Kentucky.

The grant was the result of a nomination from a local Starbucks partner (employee) who has seen the organization's impact firsthand. Through the Neighborhood Grants program, The Starbucks Foundation invites partner-led nominations and considers insights from Starbucks partners to award grants to nonprofits and charities making a meaningful difference in the communities they serve.

BRASS provides emergency shelter, crisis intervention, advocacy, and support services to survivors of domestic violence at no cost, serving communities throughout the Barren River area. As unrestricted funding, the grant will be directed to the organization's areas of greatest need — sustaining the frontline services that survivors and their children rely on most.

“Being nominated by a neighbor — someone who noticed this work and chose to lift it up — means a great deal to us,” said Tori Henninger, CEO of Barren River Area Safe Space.

"Every dollar helps us answer a call, open a door, and stand beside a family choosing safety — and we're grateful to The Starbucks Foundation for standing with them, too."

Since 2019, The Starbucks Foundation has awarded more than 19,000 grants totaling over $30 million across North America. In south-central Kentucky, Neighborhood Grants are one way Starbucks demonstrates how local partnerships between Starbucks partners, customers and nonprofits are strengthening communities.

The Starbucks Foundation’s Neighborhood Grants program supports grassroots, community-led nonprofit organizations making a difference in their community. With Starbucks partners leading the way, Starbucks helps strengthen communities it serves. Neighborhood Grants also help deepen local impact and inspire ongoing partner engagement with nonprofit organizations and charities that work in their communities.
