Help Is on the Move: Our Mobile Advocacy Unit

This summer, BRASS, Inc.’s new Mobile Advocacy Unit has been bringing safety, support, and hope closer to home for survivors across south-central Kentucky. Community by community, local chambers of commerce have welcomed the unit with ribbon-cutting celebrations, with recent stops in Allen, Hart, Butler, Monroe, and Logan counties.

The idea is simple: access to safety and support shouldn’t depend on where someone lives. BRASS, Inc. serves ten counties and nearly 3,000 survivors each year, but for survivors facing barriers such as distance, transportation, or limited access to nearby services, getting help can feel out of reach.

We aren’t asking survivors to find their way to us. We’re bringing help to them.

The Mobile Advocacy Unit helps close that gap by providing a private, confidential space where BRASS, Inc. advocates can meet survivors right in their own communities. Advocates can provide crisis intervention, safety planning, legal advocacy, and connections to resources — bringing critical support closer to where survivors live, work, and raise their families.

WBKO News recently joined us for the Hart County celebration, highlighting why expanding access to advocacy and support matters so much across rural Kentucky.

And the journey continues. Ribbon-cutting celebrations are still to come this fall in Edmonson, Barren, and Warren counties, expanding the unit’s reach throughout the communities we serve.

Traveling alongside the Mobile Advocacy Unit are student-made quilts from WKU’s Threads of Hope project, carrying women’s stories and messages of hope into every community along the way.
