Help Is Now on the Move: BRASS, Inc. Launches Its Mobile Advocacy Unit

For a survivor of domestic violence, the distance between home and help can feel impossible to close. In a service region that spans nearly 4,000 square miles and ten counties — with only three brick-and-mortar offices — that distance has been one of the biggest barriers standing between survivors and the support they deserve.


This week, we started closing that gap.


On Tuesday, BRASS, Inc. celebrated the launch of our new Mobile Advocacy Unit with a ribbon cutting in Simpson County — the first stop in a series of celebrations we'll be holding across all ten counties we serve throughout the remainder of 2026. The unit is a mobile office built to bring our services directly into the communities that need them, closer to home and easier to reach.


Bringing services to survivors, wherever they are

The Mobile Advocacy Unit isn't just a vehicle. It's a private, confidential space where survivors can connect with an advocate for crisis intervention, safety planning, legal advocacy, and connections to community resources — all without having to travel to one of our offices. Advocates can now meet survivors in public locations throughout the region while still protecting the privacy and confidentiality that are at the heart of everything we do.


The idea grew out of a simple, honest question our team kept asking: how do we truly serve ten counties when we only have three physical locations? The Mobile Advocacy Unit is our answer. It will reach the six counties that currently have no BRASS, Inc. office, giving survivors in those communities access to help without distance getting in the way.


Made possible by our community

This milestone would not have been possible without partners who believe in this mission as deeply as we do. The Mobile Advocacy Unit was funded by a $68,000 Growth Grant from the Women's Fund of South Central Kentucky, with an additional vehicle discount generously provided by Camping World and vehicle branding courtesy of Signature Signs and Ad Specialties. We are grateful beyond words for their investment in the safety of survivors across our region.

Our launch celebration in Franklin was made possible by a wonderful group of community partners. A heartfelt thank you to the Franklin-Simpson Chamber of Commerce for hosting us, and especially to Executive Director Steve Thurmond and Administrative Assistant Cristi Freese for their warm hospitality in making the day such a success.


We're also deeply grateful to the local leaders who joined us and shared remarks: Simpson County Judge Executive Mason Barnes, Franklin City Commissioner Jamie Powell, and Franklin Police Chief John Thompson. Thank you for your words and your continued partnership in keeping survivors safe. And thank you to WNKY News 40 and WKU Public Radio for coming out to help share this story, so that survivors across our region know that help is now closer than ever.



This is just the beginning

Tuesday's ribbon cutting in Simpson County was the first of many. Over the coming months, we'll be bringing the Mobile Advocacy Unit — and this celebration — to communities across all ten counties we serve: Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, and Warren. We hope you'll join us at a stop near you as we mark this new chapter together.


Tuesday's ribbon cutting in Franklin was the first of many. Over the coming months, we'll be bringing the Mobile Advocacy Unit — and this celebration — to communities across all ten counties we serve. Here's where we're headed next:


  • Monday, July 14 — Metcalfe County (Edmonton), 8:00 a.m., Old School Gym, Metcalfe County Elementary School

  • Tuesday, July 15 — Logan County (Russellville), 12:00 p.m., Logan County Chamber of Commerce

  • Monday, July 28 — Monroe County (Tompkinsville), 9 a.m., Monroe County Economic Development Center

  • Tuesday, August 18— Allen County (Scottsville), 11:30 a.m., Allen County Chamber of Commerce
