BRASS, Inc. is proud to announce that we have been awarded a $68,000 Growth Grant through the Women's Fund of the Community Foundation of South Central Kentucky — funding that will bring us one significant step closer to reaching survivors where they are.
The grant was awarded at the Annual Women's Fund Dinner on October 21 at the Knicely Conference Center in Bowling Green.
The evening featured live presentations from four nonprofit finalists competing for grants totaling $188,000, with 312 local women casting votes to determine the recipients. BRASS received the second-place Growth Grant in recognition of our proposal for a Domestic Violence Mobile Advocacy Response Unit.
What This Grant Will Make Possible
Across our ten-county service region, geography is one of the most significant barriers survivors face. Many live in rural communities far from our shelter, our offices, and the services they need to rebuild their lives. A mobile advocacy unit will allow our trained advocates to bring trauma-informed support directly to those survivors — meeting them where they are, in their own communities, on their own terms.
This isn't just a vehicle. It's an extension of our mission.
Why It Matters
BRASS, Inc. has served nearly 3,000 survivors annually since our founding in 1980. We know that the survivors hardest to reach are often those in the greatest danger. Distance, transportation, and rural isolation shouldn't determine who gets help — and with this grant, we are closer than ever to making sure they don't.
The mobile unit will allow our advocates to deliver crisis intervention, safety planning, legal advocacy, and community referrals to survivors who currently have no practical way to access them.
Thank You, Women's Fund
We are deeply grateful to the Women's Fund and the Community Foundation of South Central Kentucky for this investment in our work and in the survivors we serve. The Women's Fund model — 312 local women pooling their resources to fund bold community initiatives — is collective philanthropy at its best, and we are honored to be among its recipients.
