On April 30, 2026, Governor Andy Beshear announced $16 million in federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant funding awarded to 88 agencies and organizations across Kentucky. BRASS, Inc. is proud to be among this year's recipients, receiving $333,587 to continue providing life-saving services to survivors of domestic violence in our ten-county service region.
What is VOCA?
The Victims of Crime Act grant program is the primary federal funding source supporting direct services to victims of crime — including domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. In Kentucky, VOCA grants help organizations like BRASS, Inc. support survivors in the advocacy, shelter, and support they need to rebuild their lives.
What This Funding Makes Possible
This award allows BRASS, Inc. to sustain and strengthen the services that nearly 3,000 survivors in Southcentral Kentucky depend on each year — including our 30-bed emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis line, legal advocacy, and safety planning support.
Funding like this is never guaranteed. It is secured through an application process that requires us to demonstrate the scope of need in our community and the effectiveness of our response. We are grateful to the Beshear-Coleman administration and the Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet for their continued investment in survivor services statewide.
Safety Requires Sustained Investment
As Governor Beshear said at the announcement: "Every single Kentuckian who has experienced the pain of crime deserves the resources and ability to take back and rebuild their lives."
At BRASS, Inc., we believe the same. Every dollar invested in survivor services is a dollar invested in the safety, stability, and future of our neighbors. We are committed to being good stewards of this funding — and to showing up for every person who reaches out for help.
